The U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers to stay away from Viagra, the most widely prescribed drug in the world, after the Food and Drug Administration approved it for erectile dysfunction treatment.
The FDA is also warning consumers to use the drug more sparingly if they are sexually active. Viagra is not approved for use by women or children, and it is not approved for use by men under 18. Women may have an increased risk of heart disease.
This is in stark contrast to studies indicating that Viagra increases risk of heart attack and stroke by 20 percent, according to the.
The FDA has previously recommended that patients with a history of stroke or heart disease take the drug for at least six months after the end of a clinical trial.
Viagra is the drug of choice for treating erectile dysfunction because it does not cause erections, which can last up to five hours.
But according to the FDA, it should be reserved for the most severe cases.
“The FDA is currently reviewing safety data on Viagra for use in children, pregnant women and women who are planning to become pregnant,” said Dr. Mark J. N. Wilkes, a pediatric endocrinologist at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital.
“We need to be clear that there are no known risks, and that we are not making any recommendation for use of Viagra or any other drug in the category of medications that treat erectile dysfunction.”
The FDA also is reviewing the risk of heart attack and stroke with Viagra.
The drug may cause a condition called torsades de pointes, which is a narrowing of the arteries that carry blood to the penis.
Torsades de pointes is a type of blood vessel disease called peripheral artery disease.
Researchers have found that Viagra, which is made by Pfizer Inc., has a risk of developing as a result of the drug.
However, women and children have a higher risk of developing torsades de pointes, the FDA said.
“Women and children, however, are at an increased risk of cardiovascular disease when taken as prescribed,” said Dr. Irwin Goldstein, a urologist at the New York University School of Medicine.
Some doctors may prescribe Viagra for an older male population who has been prescribed the drug for erectile dysfunction. The FDA also may recommend Viagra to older women or men who have been prescribed the drug for erectile dysfunction.
Viagra is not approved for use by women or children, but is not approved for use by men under 18.
The drug has been linked to a risk of high blood pressure and stroke. If the risk is high, the FDA may not recommend Viagra or prescribe a medication for men who have a history of high blood pressure or stroke.
According to the FDA, Viagra is not recommended for use by anyone younger than 18.
Viagra should not be used for more than six months after the completion of a clinical trial.
The FDA also warned consumers not to take Viagra if they are taking any form of nitrates, as a class of drugs used to treat angina.
The drug has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, stroke and certain types of cancer, the FDA said.

Enzalutamide
Use alternative drugs because the use of enzalutamide will decrease the effect of Sildenafil by affecting patient hepatic and intestinal enzyme metabolism.
Acetazolamide
Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Sildenafil increases the effect of acetazolamide by pharmacodynamic synergism and it also increases the risk of hypotension.
The use of this medicine can lower blood pressure and when combining it with alcohol further increases the effect. You may experience dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, flushing, headache, and heart palpitation. Also, avoid consuming grapefruit juice because it may increase the effect of avanafil on blood levels.
Cardiovascular disease:
The use of phosphodiesterase-5 enzyme inhibitors is contraindicated in patients with cardiovascular disease. A doctor should consider the vasodilatory effects of this drug and whether they may affect patients with cardiovascular disease. The use of this drug may increase the risk of angina pectoris, AV block, myocardial infarction, ventricular arrhythmia, tachycardia, palpitation, hypotension, postural hypotension, syncope, cerebral thrombosis, cerebrovascular hemorrhage, transient ischemic attack, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and hypertension. These events can occur during or after sexual activity.
Renal dysfunction:
Therapy should be administered with caution in patients with severe renal disease or on renal dialysis. The plasma clearance of this drug is decreased in patients with a severe renal impairment which results in drug accumulation.
Liver diseases:
The use of this drug is not recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment because the pharmacokinetic disposition of this drug has not been assessed in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
